FAQs
What is the complete step-by-step process of performing Hajj according to the Sunnah?
The Hajj process begins on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah with donning the Ihraam, followed by key rituals such as Wuquf in Arafat, Muzdalifah overnight stay, stoning of the Jamarat, Qurbani (sacrifice), Tawaf e Ziyarah, Sa’ee, and ends with Tawaf e Wida. This guide provides a detailed day-by-day breakdown of every essential step for your spiritual journey.
What should I do on the 8th of Dhul Hijjah (Day of Tarwiyah)?
On the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, pilgrims should perform Ghusl, wear Ihraam, pray two Rakaats, make the intention (Niyyah) for Hajj, and begin reciting the Talbiyyah. They then travel to Mina and perform five prayers there, preparing spiritually for the Day of Arafah.
How is the Day of Arafah (9th Dhul Hijjah) performed during Hajj?
The Day of Arafah involves performing Wuquf in Arafat after praying Zuhr and Asr. Pilgrims make sincere Du’a, seek forgiveness, and stay until sunset. After sunset, they depart for Muzdalifah to collect pebbles and pray Maghrib and Isha.
What is the significance of stoning the Jamarat during Hajj?
Stoning the Jamarat symbolizes the rejection of Shaytaan. Pilgrims throw seven pebbles at the big pillar on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah and all three pillars on the following days after midday, following the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim (AS)
When is Qurbani (Udhiya) performed during Hajj, and who should do it?
Qurbani is performed on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah after stoning the Jamarat. It is a wajib (obligatory) act for Hajj pilgrims performing Tamattu or Qiran. The sacrifice marks the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and commemorates his willingness to sacrifice his son.
What is Tawaf e Ziyarah and when should it be done?
Tawaf e Ziyarah (also known as Tawaf al-Ifadah) is one of the obligatory rites of Hajj, performed anytime from the 10th to 12th Dhul Hijjah. It includes Tawaf around the Kaaba, two Rakaats behind Maqam Ibrahim, drinking Zam Zam, and performing Sa’ee.
What is Tawaf al-Wida and is it mandatory before leaving Makkah?
Tawaf al-Wida (Farewell Tawaf) is a mandatory farewell circumambulation for all non-residents of Makkah before leaving the city. It involves performing seven circuits around the Kaaba and two Rakaats of Salah, signifying the conclusion of the Hajj journey.
How many pebbles are needed for stoning the Jamarat during Hajj?
Pilgrims need a total of 70 pebbles: 7 for the 10th Dhul Hijjah (one Jamarah), and 21 each for the 11th, 12th, and optionally the 13th Dhul Hijjah (for all three Jamarat each day). Pebbles are collected in Muzdalifah and used over the next days.
What are the key spiritual etiquettes to observe during Hajj?
During Hajj, pilgrims should maintain humility, avoid arguments, refrain from sinful behavior, constantly recite Talbiyyah, engage in Dhikr and Du’a, and be patient throughout the sacred journey. Each act is a test of faith and obedience to Allah.
