A Quick Guide to Umrah Rituals
Umrah, while resembling Hajj, is a pilgrimage that can be undertaken any time of the year. It involves fewer rituals, making it more concise and straightforward. Here are the essential steps:
- Ihram – A State of Purity and Devotion:
Begin by cleansing yourself and donning the special Ihram garments, signifying your intention and dedication.
- Declare Your Intention:
At the miqat station, recite the Talbiyah to formally state your intention to perform Umrah.
- Journey to Makkah:
Proceed towards the sacred city to begin your spiritual journey.
- Tawaf – Circumambulation of the Kaaba:
Upon entering the Holy Mosque (Masjid Al Haram), perform Tawaf by walking around the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction.
- Sa’i – Walking Between Safa and Marwah:
Walk back and forth seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwah, which are located near the Kaaba.
- Completion of Umrah:
- For men: Exit Ihram by shaving the head (taqseer) or trimming the hair.
- For women: Conclude by cutting a small portion of hair.
By completing these steps, the blessed journey of Umrah is fulfilled, leaving pilgrims spiritually renewed.
